We are home. Claire was discharged this afternoon. We haven't seen any seizures since Monday (hooray!), when she was given a bolus dose of Phenobarb. She still has been coughing and gagging a lot, and we're not exactly sure why. We have set up a humidifier in the house, and we hope it helps her.
Amy, have you considered she might be starting to cut some teeth? The reason I say that is b/c when Claire started cutting teeth, she would produce a lot more drool therefore "choking" on it some and it would make her cough. Just a thought???? It can be hard to think it might be a normal baby thing when they have so many other not normal things going on.
ReplyDeleteAssuming it's just regular baby crud, anything you do to further humidify her will help. I do regular squirts of saline up the nose and even give a little water in a bottle. Also see if running a hot, hot, hot shower and holding her in the bathroom makes a difference. All these things work much better than any cough medicine. (Also a spoonful of honey but she can't have that yet)

Just another thing to think about for you guys; but the more meds Matthew was put on the more he refluxed. He has this specific cough that we call his "reflux cough". It's not strong and barky, it's hard to describe. He also coughs alot when he has more mucus or secretions. As Rebecca said above, maybe she's cutting teeth; and with the medications she is on, it may be harder for her to manage her secretions (we noticed this with Matthew).
ReplyDeleteSo glad you guys are home. Give Miss Claire Bear squeezes for me :)
So glad she's home. We've been wondering if the Chicago trip for you ones is still on. *fingers crossed* hoping so.
